Ozone shield
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007774
The region of the stratosphere containing a high concentration of ozone (O3) that absorbs most of the Sun's medium-frequency ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This layer, also known as the ozone layer, is located at an altitude of approximately 15 to 35 kilometers, though its exact height and thickness vary with season and latitude. The thickness of the ozone shield is measured in Dobson Units (DU); a value below 220 DU is considered to represent an ozone hole.
