Pluvial period

A sustained interval of time characterized by significantly higher precipitation than the long-term average for a given region. These periods can last for decades or centuries and are often identified through paleoclimatic proxies such as lake levels or sediment records. The Last Glacial Maximum, for example, included several pluvial periods in arid and semi-arid regions.
