Polytropic process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008055
A thermodynamic process that follows the relation PV^n = constant, where P is pressure, V is volume, and n is the polytropic index. This process generalizes several common thermodynamic processes, such as isothermal (n=1), adiabatic (n=gamma), and isobaric (n=0) changes. It is used to model atmospheric processes where heat exchange occurs but is not perfectly isothermal or adiabatic.
