Carnot cycle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004178
An idealized thermodynamic cycle that describes the maximum possible efficiency for converting heat into work, or vice versa, between two temperature reservoirs. It consists of four reversible processes: isothermal expansion, adiabatic expansion, isothermal compression, and adiabatic compression. The efficiency of a Carnot cycle depends solely on the absolute temperatures of the hot and cold reservoirs.
