Thermodynamic efficiency
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009604
The ratio of the useful work output from a thermodynamic system to the heat energy input, indicating how effectively heat is converted into work. In atmospheric science, it can refer to the efficiency of atmospheric heat engines, such as hurricanes, in converting latent heat into kinetic energy. The Carnot efficiency sets the theoretical upper limit for any heat engine.
