Potential evaporation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008080

The maximum amount of water that could evaporate from a surface if there were an unlimited supply of water available, given the prevailing atmospheric conditions. This theoretical rate is primarily controlled by factors such as air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation. It represents the atmospheric demand for water, distinct from actual evaporation which is limited by water availability.
