Quadrant analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008232

A statistical method used to analyze turbulent flow data by categorizing instantaneous fluctuations of velocity components into four quadrants based on their signs. This technique identifies and quantifies the contributions of different types of turbulent events, such as ejections and sweeps, to the overall momentum or scalar flux. It is commonly applied in micrometeorology to study turbulent transport processes near the Earth's surface.
