Radar scatterometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008277
A type of radar system specifically designed to measure the backscattered power from a surface, which is then used to infer properties of that surface. In meteorology and oceanography, scatterometers are primarily used to measure wind speed and direction over the ocean by observing the roughness of the sea surface. Satellite-borne scatterometers provide global wind data.
