Radiation pattern

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008301

The directional distribution of electromagnetic energy radiated from or received by a source, such as a radar antenna. In weather radar applications, it describes the sensitivity and power intensity of the antenna in different directions, with a main lobe indicating the primary direction of transmission and reception. The pattern's characteristics, including the width of the main lobe and the level of side lobes, determine the radar's spatial resolution and its susceptibility to ground clutter.
