Rare optical phenomenon

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008408

An infrequent atmospheric optical event resulting from the interaction of light with atmospheric particles, ice crystals, or water droplets. These phenomena include unusual forms of halos, arcs, sun dogs, or mirages that require specific and often uncommon atmospheric conditions to occur. Observing and documenting these events contributes to understanding the complex physics of light propagation through the atmosphere.
