Regelation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008481

The phenomenon where ice melts under pressure and then refreezes when the pressure is removed. This process occurs because the melting point of ice decreases slightly with increasing pressure. Regelation is observed in glaciers, where ice flows around obstacles, and in the formation of ice balls from snow under pressure.
