RF signal

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008569

An electromagnetic wave oscillating at a radio frequency, used to transmit information through space. In meteorology, RF signals are emitted by weather radars and satellites to probe the atmosphere and receive backscattered or emitted radiation. The characteristics of the returned RF signal, such as its intensity, phase, and polarization, provide data on precipitation, clouds, and atmospheric constituents.
