Signal velocity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008871

The speed at which a signal propagates through a medium, which can differ from the phase velocity or group velocity. In atmospheric science, this applies to the speed of electromagnetic waves used in radar or lidar systems, or acoustic waves in sound detection. The signal velocity in the atmosphere is influenced by temperature, pressure, and humidity.
