Wave group
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010149
A collection of individual waves with slightly different wavelengths and frequencies that travel together as a coherent packet. The overall envelope of the wave group propagates at the group velocity, which can be different from the phase velocity of the individual waves. Wave groups are a common feature of ocean wave fields.
