Phase speed

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007897

The speed at which a particular phase of a wave, such as a crest or trough, propagates through a medium. It is calculated as the product of the wavelength and the frequency of the wave. For atmospheric waves, phase speed can differ from the group speed, which is the speed at which energy propagates.
