Phase delay

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007888

The time difference between the arrival of a specific phase point of a wave at two different locations or at different times. It quantifies how much a wave's phase is shifted or retarded. In atmospheric remote sensing, phase delay can be used to infer properties of the medium through which the wave propagates.
