Phase instability
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007891
A condition in a thermodynamic system where a small perturbation can cause a substance to spontaneously change its phase. This occurs when the system is in a metastable state, such as supercooled water or supersaturated vapor. Phase instability is a key concept in understanding the initiation of precipitation in clouds.
