Vapor

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009944

A substance in the gaseous state that is at a temperature below its critical temperature, meaning it can be liquefied by increasing the pressure without reducing the temperature. In atmospheric science, the most common example is water vapor, the gaseous phase of water, which is a primary component of the atmosphere. The amount of water vapor present is measured as humidity and is a key factor in weather phenomena like cloud formation and precipitation.
