Van't Hoff factor
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010831
A measure of the number of particles into which a substance dissociates or associates when dissolved in a solvent. It quantifies the ratio of the actual concentration of particles produced to the concentration of the substance as initially dissolved. For non-electrolytes, this factor is approximately 1, while for strong electrolytes, it corresponds to the number of ions formed per formula unit.
