Wave celerity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010137

The speed at which a wave crest or phase propagates through a medium. It is distinct from the group velocity, which is the speed at which the overall wave energy or envelope travels. For deep-water gravity waves, wave celerity is proportional to the square root of the wavelength.
