Speed of sound
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009124
The velocity at which a sound wave propagates through an elastic medium. In the Earth's atmosphere, this speed is primarily dependent on the air temperature and to a lesser degree on humidity, increasing as temperature rises. The speed of sound in dry air at 20°C (68°F) is approximately 343 meters per second (1,125 feet per second).
