Rotational instability
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008617
A type of atmospheric instability that arises when the restoring forces due to rotation are insufficient to prevent the growth of perturbations in a rotating fluid. This can lead to the formation of vortices or other organized structures. Conditional symmetric instability is an example of rotational instability that occurs in sheared, stratified flows.
