Roundoff error
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008621
The difference between the exact mathematical result of a calculation and the approximate value obtained due to limitations in the precision of numerical representation. In atmospheric modeling and data processing, these errors accumulate over many computations and can affect the accuracy of forecasts. Modern numerical weather prediction models employ high-precision arithmetic to minimize their impact.
