Scale height

The vertical distance over which an atmospheric property, such as pressure or density, decreases by a factor of 'e' (approximately 2.718) in an isothermal atmosphere. It represents the characteristic vertical extent of the atmosphere. For Earth's atmosphere, the pressure scale height is approximately 7 to 8 kilometers.
