Scintillometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008703

An instrument used to measure atmospheric turbulence by observing the scintillation of light or microwave radiation over a path. It works by transmitting a beam of radiation and detecting the fluctuations in its intensity or phase at a receiver. These measurements are used to derive parameters such as the structure parameter of refractive index, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux.
