Spherical pyrradiometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009134

An instrument designed to measure the total flux of shortwave and longwave radiation from all directions onto a spherical surface. It consists of a sphere with a black-and-white or multi-junction thermopile surface that responds to incoming radiation from the entire 4π steradian solid angle. The measurement, called the mean radiant temperature, is used in studies of human and animal biometeorology to assess thermal comfort.
