Staff gauge

A simple, graduated scale or ruler permanently installed in a body of water, such as a river, lake, or reservoir, to visually indicate the water level or stage. It provides a direct reading of the water surface elevation relative to a fixed datum. Staff gauges are commonly used for manual observations and as a reference for automated water level sensors.
