Gauge height

The elevation of the water surface in a stream or river relative to an arbitrary fixed datum, typically measured at a stream gauging station. This measurement is a direct indicator of the water level at a specific point. Gauge height data are used to determine streamflow, predict flooding, and manage water resources.
