Steering level
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009245
An atmospheric height or pressure level considered most representative of the large-scale flow that guides the movement of a weather system. For tropical cyclones, this level is often approximated by a weighted average of winds in the lower to mid-troposphere. The precise steering level can vary depending on the storm's intensity and vertical structure.
