Storm transposition

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009282

A meteorological technique used in hydrological design to estimate extreme precipitation for a specific basin by relocating a historical storm from a different geographical area. This method involves adjusting the storm's characteristics, such as rainfall intensity and spatial distribution, to match the physiographic features of the target basin. It provides data for designing flood control structures and assessing flood risk in areas with limited historical storm records.
