Sunglint

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009384

The specular reflection of sunlight off a water surface, appearing as a bright, shimmering area in satellite or aerial imagery. The intensity and extent of sunglint depend on the sun's position, the observer's viewing angle, and the roughness of the water surface. It can be used to infer information about ocean surface winds and waves, but it can also obscure features beneath the water.
