Superior air
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009410
A warm, very dry air mass produced by sinking air in the subtropical high pressure belts, normally lying above cooler, moister maritime tropical air. Adiabatic compression during descent warms and dries it, and the boundary beneath it forms the trade wind inversion that caps the trade winds. Superior air seldom reaches the surface.
