Unstable equilibrium
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009900
A state of balance in which a system, if slightly disturbed from its position, tends to move further away from that position. In meteorology, this describes an atmospheric condition where a displaced air parcel continues to move in the direction of the displacement. This leads to vertical air motions and the development of convective clouds and precipitation.
