Adiabatic equilibrium

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003296

A state in the atmosphere where the vertical temperature gradient is equal to the adiabatic lapse rate, meaning that an air parcel displaced vertically would experience no net buoyant force. In this condition, the atmosphere is neutrally stable for dry air. This state is rarely perfectly achieved in the real atmosphere due to diabatic processes.
