Adiabatic atmosphere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003294
A hypothetical atmospheric state where the temperature profile is such that a parcel of air, if displaced vertically, would undergo an adiabatic process and remain at the same temperature as its surroundings. This implies a constant potential temperature throughout the atmosphere. Such an atmosphere is neutrally stable for dry air.
