Velocity entrainment
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009966
The process by which a moving fluid, such as an air current, incorporates and carries along surrounding fluid that was initially at rest or moving at a different velocity. This occurs due to turbulent mixing and momentum transfer at the boundaries of the moving fluid. Entrainment is a key process in the growth and dilution of cumulus clouds and plumes.
