Velopause
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009973
The level of minimum zonal (east-west) wind speed found in the summer mesosphere, typically at an altitude of about 85 kilometers. This boundary separates the westward-flowing mesospheric jet in the lower mesosphere from the eastward-flowing jet in the upper mesosphere. The velopause is an atmospheric feature analogous to the tropopause, which marks a temperature minimum.
