Equatorial easterlies

The prevailing easterly winds of the equatorial belt, best known as the trade winds near the surface and as the tropical easterly jet in the upper troposphere during northern summer. In the equatorial stratosphere, easterlies alternate with westerlies in the quasi-biennial oscillation rather than blowing persistently.
