Equatorial electrojet
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005421
A narrow, intense ribbon of electric current flowing eastward in the E-region of the ionosphere directly above the magnetic equator. This current is generated by the interaction of solar radiation, the Earth's magnetic field, and atmospheric tides. Its strength varies with local time and season, influencing geomagnetic field measurements.
