Polar easterlies

Cold, dry prevailing winds that blow from the polar high-pressure areas towards the lower latitudes. These winds originate from the subsidence of cold air at the poles, which then flows equatorward. They are part of the global circulation pattern and are deflected westward by the Coriolis effect.
