Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009349

A region of relatively high atmospheric pressure located poleward of the mid-latitude westerlies, around 60 to 70 degrees latitude in both hemispheres. These high-pressure systems are less persistent and intense than the subtropical highs. They are associated with descending air and contribute to the formation of polar easterlies.
