Easterlies

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000824

  1. Global wind patterns that blow from the east, primarily found in the polar regions and the tropics. The polar easterlies are cold, dry winds blowing from the polar high-pressure areas, while the trade winds are tropical easterlies. These winds are a direct result of the Coriolis effect acting on air moving towards lower pressure.

  2. Any winds with components from the east.
