Polar invasion

A meteorological event where a mass of very cold, dense air from the polar regions moves equatorward, displacing warmer air. This phenomenon results in a rapid and widespread drop in temperature over the affected areas. Such invasions are often associated with strong high-pressure systems originating in the Arctic or Antarctic.
