Polar coordinates

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008018

A two-dimensional coordinate system where each point on a plane is determined by a distance from a reference point and an angle from a reference direction. In meteorology, this system is useful for describing atmospheric phenomena that exhibit radial symmetry, such as hurricanes or the flow around a pole. The coordinates are typically represented as (r, θ), where r is the radial distance and θ is the angular position.
