Water mass transformation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010109

The alteration of the temperature and salinity properties of an ocean water mass due to air-sea interaction or mixing with other water masses. This process can involve heat exchange, evaporation, precipitation, or freshwater input from rivers or ice melt. It is a fundamental mechanism driving ocean circulation and climate variability.
