Water type
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010120
A body of water with a specific, narrowly defined temperature and salinity, formed at the sea surface in a particular region. It is represented by a single point on a Temperature-Salinity (T-S) diagram, reflecting its unique formation conditions. In contrast, a water mass is a larger volume of water formed by the mixing of two or more water types and occupies a finite area on a T-S diagram.
