A belt of the celestial sphere extending about 8 degrees on each side of the ecliptic, within which the Sun, Moon and bright planets appear to move. It is divided into twelve signs of 30 degrees of celestial longitude each. In meteorology the term appears mainly through the zodiacal light and zodiacal band, faint glows along the ecliptic.
