Bottom sample
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000413
A spot sample of liquid taken at or near the lowest point of a storage tank, vessel or line to show what has settled there, usually free water, sediment and heavy residue. Its composition differs from the bulk, so it is analysed separately and not blended into a representative composite sample. In tank sampling procedures it contrasts with upper, middle and lower samples drawn at set levels.
