Cleanout

The operation of removing unwanted solids, such as sand, scale, or drilling debris, from the wellbore to maintain or improve production. This process involves circulating fluids, mechanical agitation, or specialized tools to dislodge and lift the material. The success of a cleanout is often measured by the restoration of original production rates or improved injectivity.
