Contamination gas
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000827
Gas that reaches the gas detector from a man-made source rather than from the rock, for example vapor from diesel, an oil-base mud or other volatile mud additives. It can raise the shaker gas readings and be mistaken for a hydrocarbon show unless the mud program is checked. It differs from background and connection gas, which both come from the formation being drilled.
